Aging, let’s face it, we are all aging, and our brain is the first to age. Statistics show that brain disease is the number 1 cause for reduction in life span and quality over the age of 60. Just like heart disease and cancer, brain disease can be prevented through early detection, and just like heart disease and cancer, treatments are mostly ineffective in late stages, so continuous monitoring of brain health is the key for tackling brain disease. However, despite technological advances, medical world today lacks the tools for brain health monitoring. Actually, in most cases neurological disorders are diagnosed after the damage has already been caused and there is very little that can be done. That is why huge resources are being allocated in the US and EU for early diagnosis of brain disease and brain health monitoring technologies.

An exciting study published this week in “Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience”, presents a new, ground-breaking, technology called DELPhi. DELPhi is the first, clinically available, non-invasive and objective tool for evaluation and monitoring of brain health. The study displays DELPhi’s ability to detect subtle changes in brain health with aging, and it’s ability to track abnormal brain function in early stages of Dementia. The technology behind DELPhi is based on years of scientific research and is actually very intuitive. The device directly ‘pings’ the brain with a magnetic pulse, that is completely safe, and follows the brain response, which provides the needed insight on brain communication and information processing. DELPhi evaluation is performed non-invasively while the subject rests, making this technology even more attractive because it is direct and does not require participation, therefore can be used on a variety of populations from children through adults to anesthetized subjects.

DELPhi opens a door into brain health, bringing us one step closer to finally overcoming the epidemic of aging brain diseases like Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia.
