Child killed, two other children airlifted to hospitals in single-vehicle crash

— A child was killed and two children were flown to area hospitals after a single-vehicle crash in Harnett County on Saturday.

Sgt. Jimmy Stahl with the N.C. Highway Patrol confirmed to WRAL’s Lora Lavigne that the crash happened around 6:45 p.m. on Cameron Hill Road near the intersection of Gilchrist Road, in the Cameron area. A Jeep was seen overturned in the middle of the road. A girl in the vehicle died at the scene. Stahl said speed was a factor in the crash.

The two children who were injured were flown to Duke and UNC hospitals. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital. The status of their injuries were unknown.

Stahl did not release the names of the children or their ages. Troopers were still investigating and no charges have been announced.
