People in Carolina Beach bracing for another storm nearly one year after Florence

— Hurricane Dorian’s current track puts it dangerously close to the North Carolina coast. That makes people in eastern North Carolina who are still recovering from Hurricane Florence nervous, at best.

People in Carolina Beach are already bracing for the storm and hoping it’s not a repeat of last year’s hurricane. Tourists and residents were enjoying the sun and time off during the Labor Day weekend. However, the thought of another hurricane is on their minds, too.

“We’re just vacationing,” said one lady we spoke with at the beach.

With Dorian still days away, the coast is already seeing the storm’s effects. All beaches along the coast have a high risk of rip currents Sunday because of the approaching hurricane.

Everyone has their eyes and ears open for updates of Hurricane Dorian’s path.

“I make sure to pay attention to the weather so we could time it just right,” said another beachgoer.

It was almost a year ago residents were boarding up for Hurricane Florence. The Town of Carolina beach has already run through its emergency operations plan.

“We’re ready but yes, it’s like Déjà vu. It was almost a year ago today,” said Carolina Beach Mayor Joe Benson.

The Eskew family is having flashbacks. They were gone from Carolina Beach for almost two weeks and their children missed almost a month of school.

They’re hopeful Dorian decides to take another route. And with five days away from its expected arrival, it’s too soon to tell if Dorian will make landfall here on the coast.
